winter has splintered! i couldn't think of anything else that rhymed with winter. linter? renter? denter? yah, i got nothin.

anyway, the rain is falling, the wind is howling and my closet has officially transitioned. yay! it's time to bust out my trusty winter boots, wooly scarves and toasty sweaters. more is more this fall and i'm layering in bold colors and rich textures. i've been playing around with jumbo scarves (read: neck braces) and chunky blazers and loving the fact that they're not only trendy, but warm and comfy. i like to think of it as that magical intersection where form meets function. and unicorns fly over rainbows.

but it's a fine line between trend-setter and transient my friends so i'm watching how crazy i get with the winter bulk. bo-ho is cute, homeless is not. unless it gets you laundry money--then it's pretty sweet.

i had really hoped to skip over the whole topic of kim k and her 10 second marriage all together, but it would seem that every website, magazine, tweet, smoke signal and carrier pigeon this side of the mississipi is abuzz with the news. try as i might to shield my eyes from the tabloid fan fair at the grocery store checkout, there really is no avoiding the humphdashian saga.

so what went wrong? did the love fizzle? did the spark fade? did they both wake up the morning after and realize it wasn't just a nightmare? or was it something more sinister...a publicity stunt for cold hard cash? who the heck knows and to be honest who cares. i think what's more interesting is we eat this crap up! we live for the build up and sadly, the let down. we gobble up the divorce more ferociously than the wedding. and then we eat dessert. and then we look for after-dinner mints and maybe a cup of coffee. for the record, i think i stretched that metaphor a bit further than i should have. note to self for next time.

my point is, we need kim just as much as kim needs us. why? it's a distraction. it takes our eyes off our own lives and places them on someone who's screwing things up more than we are. its the same reason i like to watch Toddlers in Tiaras. so what's my verdict on all of this? i don't know. maybe that we should start making it a little harder for idiots to become famous. maybe we should raise our standards and get back to the good old days when you actually had to be good at something to build a fan base. or maybe, that we shouldn't watch someone else's life to take the focus off our own. too deep? i thought so.

alright, that's all i got. good luck kim. hope your tears dry, kris. it's time to wrap this crap up and look at what i wore today. because it was awesome.

i look like i'm about to bust skulls

i'm pooped.

do you like surprises? i do. well, that's kind of a lie. while i theoretically love to be caught in unaware, i'm kind of a control freak. which means i'm under the delusion that i have a right to know everything. which means it's pretty hard to catch me off guard. be that as it may, i really do value a good knee slapping, jaw dropping, leave you speechless surprise. the kind that makes you so giddy that your mind goes blank and all you can think about is the amazement of the moment and how in the heck you didn't see it coming. and then you pee your pants. just kidding. kind of.

but even better than that, is a surprise that has lasting implications. an unexpected gift that changes your life for the better and makes you feel humble and special and undeserving and grateful. when these moments stop you in your tracks, your jaw doesn't just drop--your heart soars.

tonight, i'm soaring... and maybe i peed my pants.

fyi, when mom calls the photo shoot stops. words to live by.

do you know that every day of my life really begins with just one question? "do i want to look like an adult or a sloth, today?" no joke. that's the first thing that crosses my mind each morning before i breach the covers. the trick is, i don't let myself get out of bed before i've mentally decided on an outfit. and i can't mentally decide on an outfit until i know which side of wardrobe to select from: successful corporate climber or rebel youth. truthfully, the later generally wins out. but every once in a while, like a good angel on my shoulder, my 4 inch heels and seamed trouser beckon me to embrace my age. the frequency of this event is seldom, as the conditions have to properly align: no need to walk far as my feet will hurt, warm temperature since i can't layer under 10 sweaters, pants that are ironed, ect.

today, the planets assumed a single-file position. that and i really need to do laundry so my options are dwindling. in any event, i like to think that i exuded executive presence at the old office this tuesday. today: dingy cube, tomorrow: corner office with a masseuse...and a TV, and a private bathroom. i hate having to share with the commoners.

and what was my reward for looking like such a professional grown-up all day? presents waiting for me when i got home, of course! yes, one box says QVC. no i'm not 60 and living in north dakota. yes, sometimes i'm a victim of late night shopping. what's your point?
